Regional Team
Nick Ong
Regional CommissionerMy name is Nick Ong, I am 40 years old and I live with my family near Annan in Dumfries and Galloway. I originally grew up in Blackpool before moving to Scotland around 20 years ago. As a young person I was a Cub and a Scout at the 11th Blackpool Scout Group, and these times form some of my fondest memories. I loved being a member of the Scouts so much that I went on to become a Young Leader and then a Cub leader. Over the last few years, my family and I have supported 1ST Dumfriesshire Scout Group, as well as our Girlguiding friends throughout the region. I am currently Chairman of 1st Dumfriesshire.
My hobbies include many outdoor pursuits and country sports. I am a keen hillwalker and runner with the aim of one day completing a 100-mile race. I love to cook outside too, and have been known to BBQ the Christmas Turkey. With my wife, children and our Border Terriers Walter and Betty, we love to camp in Scotland; although we’re not keen on the midges – but then who is?!
As the new Regional Commissioner for Southwest Scotland, I want to ensure that the region recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, returning Scouting to a strong position while remaining focused on delivering the Scouting ‘pillars of work’, and ensuring that ‘Skills for Life’ are promulgated, setting out areas where, with the support of the Regional Team, I think that we could make a real improvement to the benefit of our members and our communities.
